The day of our November cover shoot with Taylor Swift, we invited Ryan Adams out to the set in Malibu to interview her. Adams had just finished tracking his own version of Swift’s chart-dominating album 1989—and on-set Swift gushed about his version of her LP. Adams showed up looking tousled and rock ‘n’ roll—a great visual juxtaposition with the always-perfectly-poised Swift—and told Taylor that her songs are “built like battleships.” He also came with a list of thoughtful questions he’d prepared for Swift typed into his iPhone
